April was a busy and exciting month for us at Harvard Sweet Boutique. In addition to our annual rush to get special gifts to all those great Moms out there for Mother’s Day, we also managed to have some fun for charity’s sake here in Boston. Check it out…

On Tuesday, April 27 we participated in Chocolate Madness at Boston’s Cyclorama. Hosted by NARAL, the fundraising event was attended by over 600 guests who gleefully sampled the efforts of 25 professional chefs from all over the Boston area. Each of the cheftestants donated tastings of their chocolate dish as part of the competition, which included six unique categories.

Harvard Sweet Boutique made an excellent showing with our Coconut Macadamia S’mores, shown above. Toasted to order, this delectable treat with coconut macaroon shortbread, handmade vanilla marshmallows and 72% bittersweet Callebaut chocolate had some people showing back up at our table for seconds. And thirds! Do I hear fourths, anyone? Folks seemed to also dig the table display, which featured a “marshmallow tree” and a campy campfire.

While at the event, Sue George and her trusty staff of three managed to sample quite a few of the other offerings (who WOULDN’T volunteer for this job?), including local treats from Christina’s Ice Cream, Taza Chocolate, Petsi Pies and Kickass Cupcakes. We  had a blast, got plenty of “mmm’s” “ohhhhh’s” and “ahhhhhh’s,” and are grateful for the opportunity to help a worthy cause…

On Monday, April 26 Harvard Sweet Boutique could be found downtown at the Boston Park Plaza, rubbing elbows with some of the most well-connected folks around….Boston’s concierges! These ambassadors to the city are one of the finest resources around when it comes to locating the best that Boston has to offer, and each year, the Greater Boston Concierge Association hosts a Hospitality Trade Show to help keep these enterprising professionals informed of all the latest offerings around the Hub City. From tours to treats to trunk shows, all manner of goods and services were on display.

Harvard Sweet Boutique’s Sue George participated in the event by handing out tasty samples of her cookies and brownies, along with a special take-home box of mini cookies for each participant to enjoy later or share with a friend. The cookies were packaged in Harvard Sweet Boutique’s whimsical custom favor boxes, which can be used as individual favors or stacked in larger displays. Also on display were a favor centerpiece and an array of customized samples–from giant cookies packaged in a see-through sleeve with a custom label, to cello bags full of mini cookies decorated with a custom ribbon and custom label.

On April 29, 2009, Sue George of Harvard Sweet Boutique packed up her sweets and her polka dot apron and headed for Boston’s Cyclorama to participate in NARAL’s Chocolate Madness, now in its second year. Chocolate Madness pitted the sweet labors of chefs from more than 30 local restaurants, bakeries and caterers against one another, in a venue filled with over 600 attendees who, for the $45 price of admission, got to sample each of the offerings.

Judges representing the food industry, local politics and the entertainment industry sat down together to determine which of the delectable delights would win one of the six titles up for grabs at the event, which raised funds to protect and expand reproductive choice in Massachusetts.

Sue George’s entry for the event was a Vanilla Sea Salt Caramel Fudge Brownie. Judge Jacqueline Church, a local food writer deemed it one of her favorite tastes of the entire evening. The Bostonist, a blog covering the Boston scene, was another judge who found the Brownie to be tops at the event, deeming the treat “unforgettable.”

Stay tuned to The Cookie Jar Chronicles to learn when  the Vanilla Sea Salt Caramel Fudge Brownie will become available as part of our online selection of sweet treats.
